Job Description

ASRC Federal Mission Solutions (AFMS) provides technical and management solutions to help defense agencies in the space and sensor markets meet complex operational challenges. ASRC Federal is seeking an experienced technical writer to support the Sustainment and Modernization of Radar Sensors (SMORS) program. This position is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Writes, rewrites and/or edits technical documents such as Technical Manuals/Technical Orders (TM/TO), Contractor Furnished Equipment Notices (CFEN), Identifying Technical Publication Sheets (ITPS), Time Compliance Technical Orders (TCTO), and other technical documentation source data to communicate clearly and effectively operating and maintenance instructions, illustrated parts breakdowns, inspections, and other sustainment data types to a wide range of USAF customers using FRAMMAKER.

  • Acquires data resources by referring to technical specifications, engineering drawings, commercial manuals, interviewing engineers, and through AFMC Form 202 process.

  • Conducts guidance conferences, In-Process Reviews (IPR), and contractor certification efforts, and participates in USAF verification, as part of the TO 00-5-3 development process.

  • Reviews and updates AFTO Form 22 and AFMC Form 252 for completeness and technical accuracy.

  • Ensures configuration of technical data and is responsible for data delivery schedule and quality assurance in accordance with AF MIL STDs for delivery and formatting.

  • Maintains records and files of work and revisions.

  • Captures and inserts photographs, drawings, sketches, diagrams, and charts to illustrate site configurations utilized.

  • Studies drawings, specifications, mockups, and product samples to integrate and delineate technology, operating procedure, and production sequence and detail.

  • Analyzes developments in specific field to determine need for revisions in previously published materials and development of new material

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience with SGML publishing environment and publishing tools.

  • Experience with Adobe FrameMaker Editor

  • Experience in USAF/DoD radar systems.

  • Independently demonstrates the skill and ability to perform complex professional tasks in both an isolated and team environment.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have an Associates or Bachelor's Degree in English, Communications or related fields. 4 years of experience in lue of Associates Degree, 8 years of experience in lue of Bachelor's Degree.

  • 3-5 years of relevant technical writing and analysis experience.

  • Demonstrated experience and application of technical writing principles, concepts, practices, and standards.

  • Demonstrated experience and ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, schematics, and relevant technical order data.

  • U.S. Citizen with an active SECRET security clearance is required.
